TRUSTEE and MarLEN formalise a collaboration agreement to strengthen ZEWT

The TRUSTEE project is pleased to announce the signing of a Collaboration Agreement with the Horizon Europe project MarLEN, a strategic initiative focused on coordinating and leveraging European maritime and inland waterways research and innovation to support the transition towards zero-emission waterborne transport (ZEWT).

MarLEN (Maritime Low Emission Network) aims to strengthen the European Research Area in waterborne transport by aligning national and regional research and innovation programmes with the objectives of the ZEWT partnership. The project brings together European ministries and public funding bodies to support coordinated R&I activities in maritime and inland waterway technologies, fostering knowledge exchange, expanding cross-country collaboration and enabling joint actions across the entire innovation chain.

This collaboration represents an important step forward for TRUSTEE, which supports Europe’s transition towards zero-emission waterborne transport by providing foresight scenariosmulti-stakeholder assessment frameworks and data-driven recommendations to policymakers, industry stakeholders and investors.

By joining forces, TRUSTEE and MarLEN will enhance the visibility, uptake and impact of their respective results, while creating new opportunities for structured cross-project learning and cooperation at EU level. The agreement formalises a shared commitment to:

  • Mutual promotion, amplifying outreach through coordinated communication and dissemination activities;
  • Knowledge exchange, including the sharing of non-confidential insights, methodologies and results;
  • Joint actions, such as workshops, conferences and strategic events addressing key challenges related to maritime decarbonisation and the deployment of zero-emission solutions.

Through this partnership, TRUSTEE will benefit from MarLEN’s extensive institutional network and coordination role, while MarLEN will be able to leverage TRUSTEE’s analytical work and strategic insights on zero-emission technologies and deployment pathways. Together, the two projects aim to support replication, scalability and long-term impact, contributing to a more coordinated, resilient and sustainable European waterborne transport ecosystem.
