The transition towards zero-emission waterborne transport (ZEWT) systems is a complex challenge. It does not only concern the development of new technologies, but also involves environmental, economic, regulatory and social aspects. For this reason, it is essential to gather the perspectives of a wide range of actors who are directly involved in, or affected by, this transition. The Stakeholder Forum of the TRUSTEE project plays a crucial role in this process by creating a platform for dialogue and exchange between experts and relevant stakeholders, supporting the project in shaping realistic and well-informed strategies.
Through the contributions of the Stakeholders Forum members, the project can better understand needs, priorities and potential barriers related to the deployment of ZEWT solutions. The insights collected during the consultation activities will also support the development of forward-looking scenarios and contribute to evidence-based recommendations for future policies, strategies and regulatory frameworks supporting zero-emission waterborne transport in Europe.
Composition of the Stakeholders Forum
Our Stakeholders Forum brings together representatives from a broad range of organisations that may play a role in the development, deployment or governance of zero-emission waterborne transport.
Members have been invited on the basis of their recognised expertise and their relevance to the thematic areas addressed by the project. These include:
- companies involved in manufacturing, maintenance and technological development for the maritime sector;
- operators active in maritime transport and inland waterways;
- organisations related to port and energy infrastructures;
- research organisations and universities;
- public institutions and networks involved in policy development and regulatory frameworks;
- associations and organisations representing societal interests.
This diversified composition ensures that technological, environmental, operational, economic and societal perspectives are all represented, enabling a comprehensive understanding of the opportunities and challenges associated with the transition towards ZEWT solutions.
Objectives of the Consultation Process
The consultation with the Stakeholders Forum pursues several key objectives.
First, it aims to identify needs, expectations and potential constraints related to the development and implementation of zero-emission waterborne transport solutions. Understanding these aspects at an early stage helps the project anticipate possible technical, regulatory or operational barriers.
Second, the consultation process allows the project to assess the broader implications of proposed solutions, considering not only technological feasibility but also environmental sustainability, financial viability and societal acceptance.
Finally, stakeholder engagement supports the validation and refinement of project outcomes, ensuring that the solutions and recommendations developed within TRUSTEE are aligned with real-world needs and perspectives.
