March 2025 – The Horizon Europe-funded project TRUSTEE (futuRe-proof efficienT and sUStainable dEployment of ZEWT) continues to build momentum following its official launch. The consortium has just concluded its First Virtual Consortium Meeting, where project partners came together to share preliminary results and coordinate the next phase of activities.
The meeting marked an important step in setting the foundations for a long-term, coordinated effort to support the transition to Zero-Emission Waterborne Transport (ZEWT) by 2050. It served as an opportunity for all partners to align their progress, exchange insights, and refine the roadmap ahead.
Advancing the Mission Towards Zero Emissions
Funded under the Horizon Europe Programme, TRUSTEE aims to develop a science-based, stakeholder-driven framework that empowers ZEWT stakeholders across Europe—spanning policy, industry, research, and civil society—to take meaningful and timely action.
What TRUSTEE Will Deliver
Over the course of the project, TRUSTEE will deliver a series of targeted outputs designed to enable stakeholders to accelerate the ZEWT transition, including:
- Foresight scenarios for 2030 and 2050, providing long-term perspectives and guidance on ZEWT development.
- Identification of key use cases that showcase high-impact, scalable solutions for emission reduction in waterborne transport.
- A robust multi-stakeholder assessment framework to support cross-sectoral and cross-border decision-making processes.
- Practical recommendations aimed at overcoming technological, regulatory, and economic barriers to ZEWT adoption.
- A shared knowledge base to ensure that stakeholders are equipped with the right tools and insights to make informed decisions.
A Collaborative European Consortium
The TRUSTEE project is being implemented by a consortium of leading European organizations committed to sustainability, maritime innovation, and applied research. The partners include:
- Fondazione ISSNOVA (Coordinator, Italy)
- RINA Germany GMBH (Germany)
- NAVTEC (Italy)
- ISL – Institute of Shipping Economics and Logistics (Germany)
- ForMare – Polo Nazionale per lo Shipping (Italy)
- Fundación Valenciaport (Spain)
- AGSKK (Germany)
This collaboration ensures a comprehensive approach that bridges technological expertise, regulatory perspectives, and market-driven insights.
As TRUSTEE progresses, stakeholders and the broader community are encouraged to follow the project closely and engage with its findings and activities.
Stay connected and be part of the shift toward sustainable waterborne transport.
